S2 Synthesis Activity 1: Brainstorm all of the reasons you can think of as to why the communists won the CCW. Write some explanations and examples and rank them as to order of importance.
The nationalists underestimated the communists - this was the most important becuase this ultimately gave the communists the biggest advantage.
They had strategic attacks - the guerilla warfare and strategic retreats gave communists lots of confidence
They appealed to citizens - the win of the Propoganda war gave them lots of support and caused the nationalists to lose a majority of their support.
S2 Synthesis Activity 2: To what extent was the CCW lost by the nationalists rather than won by the communists?
Thesis: Despite the effective military and political strategies employed by the Chinese Communist Party during the Chinese Civil War, the struggle was, to a large extent, lost by the nationalists, rather than won by the communists, as seen through the nationalists’ poor training of troops, their lack of resourcefulness with foreign aid, and their failure to appeal to the common citizens.
Assertion 1: Despite the strategic guerilla warfare by the Communists, the nationalist side did not train their troops well, showing how the Chinese Civil War was lost by the nationalists, rather than won by the communists.
Assertion 2: Although the Communist side received minimal foreign aid, the nationalists lacked resourcefulness with the foreign aid they received at the beginning of the war, further demonstrating how the Nationalist side had lost the Chinese Civil War.
Assertion 3: In contrast to the Communists showing large amounts of attention to the common citizens, the Nationalist side lacked attentiveness to their supporters, causing a lack of support, ultimately leading to the Nationalist loss of the Chinese Civil War.
