S3

S3 Synthesis Activity 1: Which conflict had the greater effects: the Chinese Civil War or the Spanish Civil War?

Thesis: Although the Spanish Civil War (SCW), from 1936 to 1939, had lasting internal consequences, the Chinese Civil War (CCW) from 1945 to 1949 had greater effects which can be seen through China’s social reforms and political effects.

Assertion 1: Despite Spain’s postwar transformation into a traditional, Catholic state, China’s Civil War had a greater social effect, which is seen through Mao’s Cultural Revolution and land distribution.

Assertion 2: In addition, despite Spain’s easy transition to a different form of government, China received hostility from the US and Britain because of Maoism, creating many external issues showing how the CCW had a greater effect.
